CO2 emissions control is futile

My problem with the cap and trade legislation isn’t just all the corporate giveaways, I could stomach that if I actually thought it would make a difference in the climate.

India and China are telling everyone quite clearly not to bother reducing emissions. India’s Environmental minister Jairam Ramesh says “India will not accept any emission-reduction target — period,” Ramesh said. “This is a non-negotiable stand.”  And then we have this: ”China is firmly opposed to such measures,” vice foreign minister He Yafei told reporters in Beijing. If 1/3 of the world’s population refuses to play, the game cannot be won.

Robert Bryce comments that “finding an answer to the thorny question of global carbon dioxide emissions may be the most difficult one of all.” Our best bet to mitigate climate risk is to look for ways to either scrub the greenhouse gases out of the atmosphere or to reduce their effects if we can’t succeed at the first.
